Problem was partially resolved via removing the kernel module (iwlagn and iwl4965 drivers) and readding them with an option to disable 11n.
sudo rmmod -s iwlagn (or iwl4965) sudo modprobe iwlagn (or iwl4965) 11n_disable=1 This is just a band-aide.
