Another replica of this issue over here. One could agree with #Omer Akram about the nature of this bug. Most likely to be a clash of unity stuff which actually runs (!!) with the Gnome Classic stuff I'm currently using in my session.
I chose not to use Unity, I logged in with Gnome Classic.
