Holger - what you say below about being the "controlling jerk" - I consider that an insult. If you don't want to change the way the daemon currently works because that's your project and you do as you please without regard for (at least some of) the users' satisfaction with it, fine, I can understand that. Trying to convince us that it's the right way to do it and it benefits anybody - that's an insult. A default means one of many options that is pre-selected for the user; in this case, there's only one option, so this is not a default, it's just 'cause somebody wants it that way, blindly, Apple-style. There's no real reason why forcing a fixed expiration time will benefit anybody. Stop claiming that, at least have the decency to admit that you just want it that way period.
