I have also installed the 2.6.39-0 kernel for better sandy bridge support but it didn't change any sound problem : maybe ALSA bugtracking system would be a better place to post this bug ? It could be also interesting to try others distributions.
I am also trying to disable the nvidia card for saving battery time but without any success. Did you managed to use vgaswitcheroo ? Although it's probably off topic, it would be very helpful if you could give me some hints (by email ?).
