The report on archlinux forums is also by me. Sorry for not mentioning that 
here. At first I thought it was related to a specific linux distro, but 
obviously it isn't. I didn't get any proper response there, but then I found 
this bug report for ubuntu and joined.

Thanks for the advise! I just tried switching off or disabling every single 
BIOS option (only use 1 core, no turbo, etc). But again, it failed to resume 
with any combination of s2ram options there is...

Do you have the latest BIOS version 0708? Do you also experience multiple 
reboots when resuming (harddrive spins up in short intervals, red memory led 
flashes shortly like on a regular boot)?
