** Description changed: Hi. I 've just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 and I had a really hard time doing so. I have downloaded and burned the ISO, I restarted in order to install ubuntu and my computer booted from the disk drive, no problem so far. After I chose my language the purple screen with the option "Install Ubuntu" appeared and I highlighted the option and pressed "Enter". THEN, I got a black, empty screen while I was able to listen to my disk drive reading the disk.Everything was OK except for my screen.I thought there was a problem with the ISO or the disk itself. But, I 've tried different CDs and DVDs and I also downloaded the ISO several times. Unfortunately, I had always the same problem: disk drive working (making sound), screen-->BLACK-EMPTY. I was about to give up hope when I decided to turn on my desk lamp because it was getting dark. I was working on my last attempt and after I, once again, pressed "Enter" on the "Install Ubuntu" option I got the same dark screen as always but this time, because of the lamp, I saw that Ubuntu was actually being installed but the screen did not have any light. I managed to install it properly using my lamp to see what's going on on my screen but it's obvious that I can't possibly work that way. SO, how do I make my screen light come back so I can enjoy my new OS??? Note1: My screen is working perfectly with windows so, it cannot be a hardware problem. Note2:These are the exact same words I used to describe my problem at the ubuntu forums. I 've been asked to report this bug to this page by a user who was kind enough to reply to my thread. + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23. + AplayDevices: + **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272X Analog [ALC272X Analog] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + Architecture: i386 + ArecordDevices: + **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272X Analog [ALC272X Analog] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: liakos 1793 F.... pulseaudio + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0x96700000 irq 47' + Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC272X' + Components : 'HDA:10ec0272,10250212,00100001' + Controls : 16 + Simple ctrls : 9 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=909803d3-ccb7-4fb1-a446-95740c576004 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Release i386 (20110427.1) + MachineType: eMachines eMachines E525 + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=el_GR:en + LANG=el_GR.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic root=UUID=22449ce1-f0ec-41f3-ace3-fbbb8e5b9995 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-2.6.38-8-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-2.6.38-8-generic N/A + linux-firmware 1.52 + RfKill: + 0: phy0: Wireless LAN + Soft blocked: no + Hard blocked: no + Tags: natty + Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic i686 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare + dmi.bios.date: 03/11/2009 + dmi.bios.vendor: eMachines + dmi.bios.version: V1.03 + dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag + dmi.board.name: eMachines E525 + dmi.board.vendor: eMachines + dmi.board.version: V1.03 + dmi.chassis.type: 1 + dmi.chassis.vendor: eMachines + dmi.chassis.version: V1.03 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvneMachines:bvrV1.03:bd03/11/2009:svneMachines:pneMachinesE525:pvrV1.03:rvneMachines:rneMachinesE525:rvrV1.03:cvneMachines:ct1:cvrV1.03: + dmi.product.name: eMachines E525 + dmi.product.version: V1.03 + dmi.sys.vendor: eMachines ** Attachment added: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773740/+attachment/2100320/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773740 Title: 11.04 --DARK SCREEN--Need a lamp to see -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
