@Dave: Great, I'll get the patch submitted for natty SRU. Not sure about the hotkey. There may be wmi events that the driver just doesn't know how to handle. I can take a peek at the DSDT and see if I can tell anything. To collect that, run the following:
sudo apt-get install fwts sudo fwts --disassemble-aml This will generate a couple of .dsl files.
