I was able to come up with a script workaround to correct this problem. I posted the script here in #23
"USB HDD and Flash Drives no longer recognized" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/645211 So I run that EACH TIME I attach a USB storage device to our server, THEN the server will detect it.
