KDE Resources is the old equivalent to Akonadi, it is replaced by Akonadi. The problem of not being able to read/write addresses in KAddressBook was Akonadi could not start up. Logs showed Akonadi could not start up because the timestamps were inconsistent. Wiping the Akonadi database fixed the problem, however it is liable to re-appear as long as the NFS server and local computer are incorrectly set up (i.e. are not kept in sync with NTP).
