Well, good news everyone. Turns out there were some significant upgrades to evolution from lucid to maverick. Because of that I've been able to implement all of the features I had working in lucid *entirely* within the evolution-indicator package without any sort of hackery. Hopefully this makes the patch more palatable since I haven't changed any of the evolution source code. I've uploaded the results on my ppa. The relevent commands are
