Dear Gary

Thanks for making time to reply to me. I will check the bug number you gave
in your note and see if that will fix the problem. Ubuntu installed very
quickly and easily on my netbook (Eee PC901 with solid state drives) to
replace the version of Linux that the netbook came with, then my son
recommended I should install the 'Restricted extras' pack to improve
Ubuntu's capabilities because he had done the same on his home computer.

However, even if the 'Restricted extras' won't install, the netbook is
working fine with Ubuntu as installed from a USB drive.
