I tried to make sure that my report was not tainted by recent changes to my system, so I downgraded to the "official" lucid version of gwibber (2.30.1-0ubuntu1) and verified that the bug is still present for me in that version, I upgraded back to 2.31.4~bzr783-0ubuntu1~daily1 and the problem is fixed.
