Like olie (2007-03-24 09:38:23 UTC) the update tool did not start, seems to be a problem with root access to the x server: adept_manager run using sudo has access to x server but the spawned "dist-upgrade.py" appears to run just as root and does not have access to x server. (For those that have this problem and want a temporary workaround, issue the command "xhost +root" as your normal user before running adept, then issue "xhost -root" immediately after the update has finished.)
One of the cleanup commits (a removal) failed, from which point the process started consuming all available cpu time. It eventually completed correctly, but I suspect this is something that needs looking at. Also had to reboot manually, which is probably related: it might have rebooted for me eventually but I got impatient. Other than that, I think it would be good to have the summary of what is being installed/upgraded/removed colour-coded to make the different entries in the long list more easily identified, particularly the removals. Also a search filter on package name and type (upgrade/install/removal) would be useful to quickly check important stuff (though I accept that this is an important operation and perhaps we ought to be forced to pay detailed attention to what's going on...) -- SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/84717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
