unfortunately the situation is even worse than portrayed here so far , the order of the drives as displayed by the installer is not the same as the BIOS order or the order as presented in Gparted (which I use for all formating and partitioning ) or even consistent from one release to the next . I test on a multi drive ( 6 hds 2 dvds ) box, multi partition 2 to 6 per drive and the only way to really know which is which is to label each partition with a distintive name . and BTW ubiquity sometime refuses to put grub ANYWHERE except the mbr fo what it is calling SDA ( which ) may infact actually be and IDE drive not a sata . some consistency please .
