I'm getting similar problems this evening after updating my desktop from Karmic to Lucid yesterday. Having read Benjamin's comment (#2) I checked but only have the xulrunner-1.9.2 package installed.
I did have a sun-java5-jdk installed that didn't get removed by the upgrade (although sun-java6 did!). I have now installed the sun- java6-jdk package and will try this tomorrow.
