YES! We are getting somewhere -- exactly where I do not know, but anyway... some other place looks better than being stuck where we were so far :-)
Timo, please verify /etc/usplash.cfg -- does it match the resolution you passed on the bootparm? On my system, with vga=792 on bootparm *and* usplash.cfg set to 1024x768, the splash is full screen (but oh so very slightly skewed).
