My experience is even if you read of someone having success with a particular
wireless-n adapter, going out and buying the exact same product is near to
impossible. I started out with the Dlink DWA-160, having read of people who had
had success with this with Ubuntu 9.10. I also went out and bought a Dlink
DIR-825 dual band wireless router.
Then I discovered that DWA-160's are not all created equal. There is a A1 and
A2 version which use the same atheros chipset, and there is the B version which
used the ralink rt3572 chipset (same as the WUSB 600N V2 uses). I read of
dropped connection issues with the atheros based devices so set out to find the
B (ralink based) version. I scoured many Office Max and Office Depot stores in
Washington state but could not find one.
So, I decided to buy the Linksys WUSB600n V2, having read it uses the same
chipset. Now I have a linksys adapter and a Dlink router and still have
problems. Linksys will not help me and Dlink have given up basically as I am
using Linux.
I have 'reliable' connection reported running at 270Mbps, I don't see any
noticeable dropouts when surfing the net or transferring big files. However, I
can't stream a simple 4minute AAC audio file from my windows box without
getting 2second pauses in the audio every minute or so- it is very frustrating.
This same Linksys adapter works find when plugged into a windows box, although
I am having to use a different player (iTunes) in that case.
I am seriously thinking about giving up on the idea of wireless-n for my media
center altogether.
Good luck
