Unfortunately I do not know of **any** 802.11N USB hardware that works "out of the box" on any version of Ubuntu. There are 802.11b/g USB adapters that work well, but 802.11N chipsets are as broken on Linux in 2010 as 802.11b/g chipsets were in 2000.
I just wiped my OS clean and started over, trying all of these steps again, especially Yohann's helpful instructions. Still no joy. I think "WUSB600N-EU" is not identical to "WUSB600N v.2". Even if they have the same USB ID (1737:0079 Rev 0101), there may be subtle differences that make the U.S. retail chip "WUSB600N v.2" still incompatible. The furthest I've gotten is getting this chip's LED to blink and some nasty messages in dmesg, as I have stated before. However, I am using 5GHz 802.11N with WPA2-PSK AES. I refuse to downgrade the security or speed of my router to use this card. The reason I can't get it working may be related to my settings, although Yohann reports success with the exact configuration I'm using. My router is a Linksys WRT610N, which works flawlessly with this chipset on Windows. In fact, "Linksys by Cisco" advertises that these parts are *specifically* designed to be optimized to work together. Indeed, on Windows, I am unable to distinguish between this chipset and 100mbps Ethernet (except that perhaps this chipset can push data even faster than 100mbps Ethernet over the local network!) Oh well, sorry for ranting. The software just isn't there. Until I can get the WUSB600N v2 to work with a recent version of Ubuntu, I'm having to use Windows, as ethernet is not convenient on the PC with the WUSB600N chip. I will try again next time Ralink updates their proprietary drivers, and again when 2.6.33 (and .34, etc) are official, to see if the rt2x00 project has made any progress with this chipset. -- Linksys By Cisco WUSB600N v2 Doesn't Work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
