I can confirm this behaviour when booting the feisty-desktop-i386.iso of
Herd 5, altough the bootmessages are different on my system (see
attachment).  Specs:

- ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Mainboard
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU

This motherboard contains a jMicron chip for IDE devices. I've seen some
postings on launchpad regarding problems with this chip. My system uses
the jMicron IDE connection for my DVD/CD drive, so maybe these issues
are related?
