I am surprised to read that there is only one report about this bug. I have loaded Ubuntu 9.10 on to a refurbished IBM ThinkCentre. I have the same problem as does other people trying to load Ubuntu 9.10 on this product. I Googled the problem.
I found that a single devise (memory stick) attached to a USB port would work after i invoked lsusb from a terminal window. This info came from other people with the problem. However when I attached my HP Deskjet 6940 it worked fine but nothing else worked when I tried the memory stick. A complete restart would not start more than two devises attached to USB ports. During the restart I saw what appeared to be error messages before the login screen. Could not read then all. I think that there was an error #17 Hope that this will help.
