You shouldn't have got any errors when installing from Clay's PPA. BTW, you should have added the repo instead of installing the .deb, but that's a different story.
Anyway, I have a similar setup and it's working fine. All I can think of is that you have some weird accounts, related to the import, and in 0.9.3 we have added some controls. That might be what's triggering your problems. Did you say the import didn't bring in transactions which had multiple splits? Are they perhaps investments?
