No this doesn't address my concerns.
My concerns are that it is installed in the first place by default instead of 
user install.
  As I mentioned, there is no real need for any developer to know what 
applications are being used or most popular.
  If that were a true concern then gnome-screensave, for example, would never 
have been used in the default install for ubuntu-gnome.
  My concern is again that it is installed by default, there is not need for 
it, on top of which is not reliable at this point anyway.
