I get this message: " ata1 Softreset failed (device not ready) ", as posted above, and then this message: "SQUASHFS error: Major/Minor mismatch, older Squashfs 3.1 file systems are unsupported." as posted at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/squashfs/+bug/375352 and then dropping to shell command line, "exit" cause kernel panic.
