Hi, I have the same problem and would like to add some info from my attempts to figure out what is wrong.
This probem is not confined to TexLive but occurs with TeTeX also. However the problem is not so severe with TeTeX. In TexLive XDVI crashes when trying to open any DVI file. However with TeTeX I am able to open DVI files that I have created myself (but the quality is poor and it does sometimes crash). The problem is not confined to a specific DVI rendering app. For example it occurs with XDVI and with tkDVI. Could it be a font path problem with X11? I have uploaded an affected DVI file for info ** Attachment added: "Latex2e users guide in DVI format" http://librarian.launchpad.net/5595336/l2e-usrguide.dvi -- Xdvi shows poor rendering quality https://launchpad.net/bugs/58987 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
