I have a similar problem concerning to IO-APIC in my new laptop bought a few 
days ago.
when i boot i receive the message "mp-bios bug: 8254 timer not connected to 
io-apic". after this, sometimes the boot process stops.. but generally it 
continue to run (during the remaining boot process, EVERY TIME ubuntu checks 
all filesystems.. and this activity requires EVERY TIME some minutes).

furthermore, if I boot with special options like noapic, there is the
Kernel Panic .
