I have same problem here using Asus M2N-E motherboard with AMD Atnhon 64 X2 4600+ and NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS.
Windows XP works fine, but ubuntu 6.06.1 gave me same message posted here. I did try fedora core 5, but almost same message.
