Ok, cool, that's a relief to hear. Sorry if I got really edgy (no pun
intended) about it... When this affected GNOME, "users should be less
stupid" was the initially accepted solution, so yeah I tend to get a bit
feisty when it seems like a data loss bug is being brushed off.

I think the best initial solution will be to have
kubuntu-default-settings add a hal config file that makes removable
media mount sync for Kubuntu.

The better psuedo-longterm solution is to modify KDE's unmounting logic
to first remount-ro and then unmount, so the icon does not disappear
immediately.
