It still crashes for me, but the error is different:

Traceback (most recent call last):

    s = Sok()
  File "/usr/share/onboard/sok.py", line 49, in __init__

    self.get_sections_keys("Alpha", keys,pane,0,0)
  File "/usr/share/onboard/sok.py", line 214, in get_sections_keys
    shape = key['shape']
KeyError: 'shape'

I've got version 0.85. Onboard works with its layout set to "scan", but
not "Default".

My layout in gnome-keyboard-properties is set to U.S. English, and the
model is Japanese 106-key.
