may i ask if you've uncovered anything else? i haven't had any problems so far with this clean x64 install...going on 6 hours now with desktop effects set to extra in System>Preferences>Appearance using the NVIDIA 177 restricted driver...i wish i could track down these crashes in a log file...but every log i've scoured i've come up dry...:(
