"replace with package maintainer's version" is /not/ the default. The user must explicitly choose this option in order for the grub entries to be clobbered.
I'm not completely happy with the usability of the current update-grub code, but at least on that point we get it right in 8.04 and above. Further improvements in this area (i.e., fixing it so that users never *have* to resolve conflicts) requires fundamental changes to the grub config file format (variable support), which will only happen with the move to grub2 at some undetermined future point. Alan, to keep your Vista boot option in the grub menu.lst without it causing conflicts on upgrade, you should add it either before the line '### BEGIN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST', or after the line '### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST'. The latter is where the Ubuntu installer places it when detecting that another OS is installed. ** Changed in: grub (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- Windows boot data wiped from grub after update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216181 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
