I get the result described in this bug in Intrepid 8.10 (used to work in
8.04). I am not quite sure if the issue I am experiencing is the same as
the one described in bug #43572. Changing the slider in the applet
actually does set the screen brightness correctly, but the applet fails
to show the percentage (displaying "Cannot get laptop panel brightness")
for any level below 100%. Hardware is a Dell Inspiron 1720.
