I got a similar problem to Aaron. Installed Intrepid beta on a Toshiba A100 laptop yesterday and I could get to the gdm screen fine. When I login I am stuck on the blank (tan) screen.
I got around it by doing this: 1) Exit the blank screen by pressing Alt+Ctrl+Backspace. 2) Hit F10 at gdm screen and "Select Session" -> GNOME. 3) Login again selecting GNOME to be the Default session when prompted. This seem to work for both user accounts on my laptop. Subsequent logins work fine. I still have the problem if I try to switch to the Guest account. I have no idea how to fix it yet.
