I'm aware that the installation of the nvidia-installer might be the
source of the problem (or my efforts to solve it). But PLEASE make the
nvidia-driver in synaptics more robust to handle problems like this :-)

In my opinion that should be the groundrule while developing a
sophisticated desktop environment like ubuntu does.
