ummmm.... the status of this report has changed to "fix released" - but
the package nvidia-glx-177 still fails to install due to the same error
mentioned at the beginning.
(The loop that got magically resolved was just a little part of the
problem I encountered while trying to track down the problem.)
So the problem still exists, thus I will try to re-open the bug, never
mind :-)
