"service apport start" runs without complaining and overrides /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern to send core dumps to apport, even though apport doesn't exist. Apport's service scripts should refuse to run if Apport isn't installed and, in particular, shouldn't break /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern. Observed in Ubuntu 14.04.1, apport 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.5.
