new install ubuntu 20.04.01 same audio issue, settings and pavucontrol only see hdmi audio out and not intel hda audio older dell desktop with 4 years previous use ubuntu. audio worked on morning of my fresh install ubuntu 20.04.01. oddly virtualbox install ubuntu 20.04 and other dist same linux, but broke my base machine. base machine restart and messing with pavucontrol allowed my to select appropriate settings to restore audio after exit virutalbox session. all else works and i do not want to risk all my transfer/setup trying to fix this one issue, as important as it may be to me.
just politely adding my experience to thread in case future update may address this issue. william@william-Studio-XPS-7100:~$ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
