dash transparency sometimes shows desktop instead of underlying window

Bug description:
Sometimes, summoning the dash gives a background showing the desktop instead
of the underlying windows, reminescent of the old "fake" transparency fix used
in Gnome2 for non-accelerated video cards (with no Direct Rendering support)
Expect behavior: The dash should blur whatever window is underneath it,
instead of bluring the desktop.
