Legend

This ancient temple, however, fell into obscurity andremained hidden within the
forest for countless centuries until it was rediscovered by twoAadivasis named
Chakki and Chaathan. Legend has it that while theseindividuals were cutting
tree barks with their sickles, they inadvertentlystruck the idols, causing them
to bleed. Overwhelmed with fear, they fled thescene. Subsequently, upon
learning of this miraculous event, the local communitycleared the area and
unearthedthe two idols along with a nearby well. Astrologers confirmed thatthe
discovered idols were representations of Shiva and Vishnu, prompting
theconstruction of a temple at the site to honour them.

Sri Parasuraman or Bhargavaraman, the sixth incarnation ofLord Maha Vishnu is
said to be the creator of the temple and he performed'Prathishta'. The
'Tanthri'and one of the trustees of the temple belong to Bhargava gothram, which
is said to be indicating the relationship between them and SriBhargavaraman.

Architecture

The ancient and aesthetic Sri Randumoorthy kshetram issituated at Thrikkangode
nearOttappalam in Palakkad district.

This is a very uniquetemple as the presiding deities Shiva and Vishnu are
consecrated in "linga" form in the samesanctum. The srikovil is in a circular

Vishnu in a same srikovil in itself is a rarest occurrenceand such a
prathishta, hopefully, cannot be seen anywhere in the world.

The sculptural beauty of the temple is to be seen to bebelieved. The
'Mukhamandapa' or the place where 'vedaparayanam' is offered isabundant with
such wooden carvings and sculptures. The wooden carvings of thetemple proclaim
the divinity of the art. It can be seen that the art is mixtureof Malayalam and
Tamil art forms.
