Applied second diff after upgrading current to latest snapshot, and
voila: my Intel WiFi Link 5300 works perfect. Thanks, Fabian. (Sorry for
the noise caused by me attempting to pour new wine into old wineskins
and thanks to David and Stuart for reminding me.)
