I guess on the mobile app you cannot change font size except predefined
values like small/standard/large

This reminds me "quote" effect in email text but I'd much rather prefer to
stay consistent with proven standard mobile UX patterns.

It's a matter of personal taste of course but do you find these examples
unreadable?

On both the apps "month" text is #757575 gray bold and ribbon/strip
background is light gray #EEEEEE. Same color combination is used in other
apps so I guess it is a standard. I find it very readable on all my Android
devices.
