Those files are created when a new session is made. You can usually
remove them without harm, if they are not being used. Usually a good
bet is when they are over 24 hours old.  After you deleted them, do
more appear when you attempt to login?

As was suggested, check your servers time, and timezone and make sure
they are correct. They do have an impact on sessions.
