TEST 0 shows the results of a select.  To get a count of the new
messages, we use STATUS.  For example:

  A01 STATUS INBOX (UNSEEN MESSAGES RECENT)

Try using the above to see if you get a count. I assume you mean it's
not shown as unread in the mailbox list (the one that shows all the
messages)? Or do you mean it's not showing the count in the folder
list on the left?
