I suggest that you download v1.4.4 and read the file "UPGRADE". It can also be read at <http://cvs.sf.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/squirrelmail/squirrelmail/UPGRADE?rev=1.10.2.2>. A more risky way to do it is to unarchive the new version over the old one, but I think that following the instructions in "UPGRADE" is a better way to go.
