Hmmm...

I have a question about courier-imap migration (I know this isn't the ideal list for this question, but it seems on topic)...

Can the migration to courier-imap be transparent to the users? I'm planning a move to courier-imap, and if it weren't for the IMAP path prefix setting in those using email clients to access their email, it seems like this would be possible. Is there a way to setup symbolic links or otherwise safely make the move from mbox to Maildir in a completely transparent way without having users change their email client settings?

It seems like this is not possible, but I thought I would see if any of you creative minds have come up with a way to do this =)

Can we revisit the Courier imap discussion.
I am using Sendmail, procmail, UW imap and pop, SquirrelMail, and mbox
format.
I like the sound of better SquirrelMail performance, and more importantly
the maildirs format.
In my cursory research I found that Courier imap standalone application
only recognizes maildirs.
Is it possible to get my Sendmail/Procmail to use maildirs and then add on
the Courier Imap and use UW pop, or are you advocating using the complete
Courier package? As I understand it Courier does the job of Sendmail,
procmail, and imap and pop. Is this correct?
thanks for your help

Yes you can use Sendmail/Procmail to deliver to maildirs. No, you cannot
use the UW pop server because it does not understand maildirs BUT you can
use the courier POP server that comes with the courier-imap application.

There are many mbox to maildirs conversion programs around so converting
is easy.

You are correct about the Courier application suite doing everything
(sendmail, procmail, imap, pop, and even webmail) but you don't need to
implement all of it if you don't want to. Keep the sendmail and procmail
part if you are happy with it.
