My question is simple - I want to install Squirrelmail on my webserver, but I can't chmod or chown the data directory. Is there any way to stop Squirrelmail from trying to write to the directory without limiting functionality too much, or is there a way to allow it to write without using chmod, chgrp or chown?

I can't SSH into the box, only set up cron jobs. :S Can anyone help!?
