Thanks hope you dont mind my asking a few more specifics...

I was just looking at http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/SquirrelMailRequirements

I saw
"Note: While Apache2 is available (and being shipped by default with Red Hat Linux)
the SquirrelMail
                         development team does not recommend the use of Apache2 with
SquirrelMail at this time. "

any pointers to what these issues are? do these issues still exist with current
version of SM 1.4.0

also re php >=4.3.0 and SM I saw:
" There have been issues with PHP 4.3.0 and earlier versions of SquirrelMail .... If
you have difficulty loading/restoring user preferences when using one of these
 versions of SquirrelMail with PHP 4.3.0, please upgrade to the latest version ( >=
1.2.11, >= 1.4.0 final).

any other known issue with current release of php 4.3.2...if I use the latest stable
release of SM?
I'd like to go ahead and upgrade php while I'm at it because of security bug fixes
incorporated since 4.2.2
