I agree - AND the fact is that the amount of effort involved in expressing (In a really well-made UI) every possible permutation of every command line option of a really complex tool like SOLR is tremendously high and unlikely to ever get done unless sponsored by a corporation. While it's true that the ideal would be UI that makes it all easier (and such UI is theoretically possible) it rarely gets built because of the cost involved. There can be tremendous complexity in expressing that many moving parts successfully... My .02 worth anyway...
