Event listeners are custom classes so you could do "anything"....however I guess the event firing is synchronous so the listener logic should be no-blocking and as fast as possible.
But this is my guess, I hadn't look at the code. Instead, if the listener invocation is asynch then forget my comment, the answer is yes.
