Rafal's book is "compatible" with Solr 5: http://solr.pl/solr-cookbook-third-edition/ . But the number of features and changes introduced in 5.1, 5.2, AND 5.3 was making any book writing on the topic quite hard. Speaking from the experience. Regards, Alex. P.s.
