I started to look at this back in August and decided to wait for climbingrose's implementation, however since then my priorities changed and I hadn't had a chance to re-visit it.
Sounds like there is quite a bit of interest in this feature, so it would be great if those who have make progress on this so far to share their code so we can avoid any further duplication of effort. JIRA is still the best place to upload code contributions, regardless of the amount of testing performed or documentation included (concur with Hoss).
